Prada Group has recently confirmed it will pursue the retail expansion of its Miu Miu brand in China, despite the changing market conditions. As for the Prada brand, Donatello Galli (CFO of Prada Group) indicates that 75 to 80 new stores will be opened in 2013, with a focus on Asia, Gulf countries (GCC) and North America. Prada currently operates 196 stores in Asia and 185 in the Western hemisphere. In 2012 alone, Prada Group invested 265 milion euros in retail expansion alone.

After annoucing the opening later this year of its largest worldwide store in Milan covering over 5000 sqm in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele (the site of Prada very first store), Prada also confirmed the acquisition of a historical palace in Florence for 70 million euros. Details of Prada’s future opening in Florence have not yet been announced

chemont Group, the owner of jeweller maisons such as Cartier or Van Cleef Arpels and watchmakers such as Vacheron Constantin and IWC announces it will open 50 boutiques by March 2014, compared to 66 opened in the year ending March 31st 2013. Richemont Group initially planned for 100 new boutiques, but market conditions have determined the company to scale down.

Richemont Group has 1,740 shops around the world, 1,014 of which it operates itself with the remainder operated by franchisees. Jewellery maison Van Cleef Arpels is one of the Richemont Group brands to change its strategy in China, instead of a larger number of smaller boutiques, it plans to open fewer but larger boutiques. In an interview to Down Jones, Gary Saage, CFO of Richemont Group declined to comment how many boutiques have already or will be closed in China, instead commented ‘more shops were being relocated than shut’.

Pankaj Advani would be aiming to lift the Welsh Open trophy after a rousing performance in the pre-quarter match

New Delhi: Pankaj Advani on Wednesday created history by becoming the first Indian cueist ever to reach the pre-quarterfinals of the BetVictor Welsh Open Pro Snooker Series
Eight-time world champion Advani, the only active player to compete at the highest level in both billiards and snooker concurrently in the same season, reigned supreme at the green baize to enter the Round of 16, where he would be facing either 2006 world champion Graeme Dott of Scotland or Ireland`s Fergal O`Brien.
“I’m ecstatic about this win. Defeating a player of Murphy`s calibre, that too in a main event, requires one to play out of his skin. I guess that`s what happened!” Advani said.
“The atmosphere was electrifying. Competing at such a high level and with family and friends all over the world watching live makes you realise you’re part of something massive. A grand occasion requires a grand approach,” added Advani, who became the youngest Indian ever to win eight World titles in any sport, following his World Billiards title triumph in October last year in Leeds.

In the match between Advani and 2005 world professional snooker champion Murphy, the 27-year-old Bangalorean started with a bang in Frame 1, putting his opponent under pressure immediately with some exceptional potting to win it 75-15.
Murphy bounced back though in the second with a break of 71 to pocket the frame 100-10. Advani replied with the highest break of the match, a 121 clearance, to take back his lead in the third frame and then widened the gap with a 51 break to secure the fourth.
The match was all class with breaks and quality safety play. From here on, Murphy took the attack to his Indian opponent by winning the next two frames to enforce the decider.
What looked like a one-sided affair in favour of Advani turned out to be a cracker. The Englishman gathered enough momentum to tip the odds in his favour entering into the seventh frame but it was Advani who used his billiards prowess to make Murphy commit mistakes and concede points through fouls.
Advani then hit the final nail in the coffin with a well-crafted 36 break before Murphy surrendered the match at 64-15.
The commentary team was all praise for Advani’s display of world class snooker being a billiards expert. This is Advani’s first professional season.
Advani had defeated former world champion Peter Ebdon 4-3 to enter the draw of 32 in the Welsh Open.
Earlier this season, he defeated some of the big names in the Pro circuit like Steve Davis, Jimmy White, Nigel Bond, Alan McManus, Michael Holt, Mark King, Ryan Day and John Higgins to stamp his authority on the professional snooker world.
In the past, two-time Asian champion Yasin merchant had qualified for the Round of 32 in the Welsh Open during his stint on the professional circuit.
Scores: 75 (39)-15, 10-100 (71), 121 (121)-9, 72 (51)-13, 36-103(89), 28-72, 64-15.

AUTO Indonesia is currently the fifth largest market for Rolls Royce cars in South East Asia, after China, Japan, India and Singapore (with an important number of Indonesian expats in Singapore as customers of the luxury car brand. Mabua Group, the local dealer of Harley Davidson motorbikes, announced last month that it is on track to become the largest dealer of the US motorbike company in number of units sold in the entire South East Asian region. BMW is the best selling European luxury car brand in Indonesia, followed closely by Audi and Mercedes Benz. Whille Toyota is one of the major mass market cars in Indonesia, its luxury brand, Lexus lags behind its European competitors. Apart from flagship showrooms, brands often open pop up showrooms in malls – in June 2012, Audi, Jaguar and Bentley set up pop up showrooms at the Pacific Place mall. WATCHES & JEWELLERY According to a report by Forbes Indonesia, the local luxury watches market was worth US$ 200 million in 2011. While sales of watches has been growing constantly, sales of high end jewellery have been stagnating due to increased taxation, most wealthy Indonesians opting to make such shopping abroad, especially in Singapore and Dubai. Cartier, Montblanc (5 stores in Jakarta and 2 stores in Surabaya), Omega and Tag Heuer are the best represented watches and jewellery brands in Indonesia, each with several mono-brand stores at the major malls in Jakarta. Tiffany and Bvlgari each have two mono-brand store in Jakarta, while Rolex is only present with corners within the Time Place stores. The Time Place is the largest luxury watch retailer in Indonesia, with five flagship stores, four in Jakarta and one in Surabaya.

 

HOTELS Most international five star chains are present in Jakarta, the majority operating in buildings built in the late 90′. The only new five star hotel to open in Jakarta in the past two years is the Keraton, a tower hotel adjancent to the Hyatt Jakarta. Both hotels have the same owner and market sources indicate disagreements with the Hyatt chain for a Park Hyatt managed hotel, instead Starwood’s Luxury Collection was selected as operator for the Keraton hotel. Mulia hotel, the city’s largest five star hotel, which is independently owned and run is ranked among the top luxury hotels in Jakarta. The owners of the Mulia are preparing for their second property, this time, in Bali. Occupancy has been steadily increasing in the past three years, especially thanks to growing corporate traffic, however, average nightly rates at five star hotels are among the cheapest in South East Asia, hence, a reason for hoteliers to minimize investments to refurbish and renovate hotels. Weddings and other family events represent the biggest non-room revenue for the large five star hotels, ballrooms being booked almost a year in advance. The average number of participants at such grand weddings are 2.000 guests and a wedding can take up to three days. The Mulia and the Ritz Carlton Pacific Place have the largest ballrooms in Jakarta. Bali has seen a flurry of luxury hotel openings, among the latest being Alila Villas Uluwatu, W Hotel & Retreat and The Regent. Most developers in Bali have been focusing on luxury residential developments, mostly targetted at wealthy Indonesians. Four Seasons, Alila, GHM and Aman Resorts are the main luxury hotel operators in Bali, each chain with more than one property in Bali.

For the forthcoming UK polo season (May to September), the Hurlingham Polo Association (HPA), the sport’s governing body, supported by Audi, the premium car company, have together created a brand new series of Polo Internationals to be known as the ‘Audi International Polo Series’.The newly created series will feature three Internationals for the season with each taking place at different venues across the country. It will include the newly named Audi International at Guards Polo Club, near Windsor (formerly the Cartier International) – one of the highlights of the British summer season and undoubtedly the biggest attended UK polo event of the year. London may have been the Olympic city this past summer, but it was also “Audi City.” The German luxury car brand launched its first digital showroom in London, just in time for the Olympics, pitching it in a movie-style trailer. The innovative concept was designed to digitally present Audi’s entire line of cars in a compact space, using such “groundbreaking media technology,” says Audi, as the ability for visitors to “digitally select their vehicle from several hundred million possible configurations and experience it in realistic 1:1 scale on screens that almost fill the entire space.” More Audi Cities are coming soon.Image

Audi didn’t start the trend of marketing cars in big city downtown areas, however. In May, BMW opened its first “BMW Brand Store” in metropolitan Paris and a BMW 7 Series Lounge in Moscow. Unlike the Audi concept, real cars appear in the two retail outlets. This week, Mercedes Benz inaugurated in Milan a ”Visionary Store” ,first of its kind, offering prospective buyers, enthusiasts, and admirers to experience what the new A-Class is all about. Located near the cathedral, the new Visionary Store’s opening was attended by Mercedes-Benz Cars Head of Sales and Marketing, Dr. Joachim Schmidt, together with Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team driver Nico Rosberg. Schmidt said that the aim was for customers to experience the vehicle in a whole new light, both in the real and virtual senses. That’s because the store is equipped with Wi-Fi, Kinect, tablet PCs, and augmented reality, among others. This concept store is just part of the marketing for the new A-Class, which is involved in a Roadshow that takes it through a whopping 90 cities in Europe. The iconic luxury brand, Rolls-Royce (owned by BMW) its opening its first ever boutique at Central Rama 3 Mall in Bangkok, Thailand. Rolls-Royce already has a Bangkok showroom, but the boutique, the first of its kind to be located in an upscale shopping mall, will feature additional products. The brand experience will allow the luxury automaker “to reach a broader audience who will be able to view first-hand why the elegance, quality and craftsmanship of our cars earn them the title of the ‘best cars in the world,” explains Torsten Muller-Otvos, Rolls-Royce CEO. Upscale Thai consumers embrace luxury brands, and Thailand is an even more attractive Asian market now that economic growth in China is slowing. Rolls-Royce operates 27 showrooms in the Asia-Pacific region, including China. In fact, Rolls-Royce Bangkok’s seven-car showroom was the first in the Asia Pacific region to have two storeys and secure underground parking for customers. It also incorporates a special delivery room for customers. ”We again demonstrate our commitment to the Rolls-Royce brand in Thailand by ensuring customers have accessibility, choice and the latest product offerings,” commented Chatvithai Tantraporn, GM for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Bangkok. Part of its first steps in developing an interactive communications platform, Rolls Toyce introduced last month a digital tool, the “Provenance Pre-owned Stock Locator,” which allows consumers to search for exclusive Provenance cars quickly and easily using an iPad, smartphone, or computer. Rolls-Royce chose to make the tool available via its website and through local dealers rather than as a standalone app. In addition to searching for cars within specific countries, users can sign up for alerts and be notified via email and SMS when search criteria have been met. “With the Provenance program, complemented by our new pre-owned stock locator, we can offer examples of the finest pre-owned Rolls-Royce motor cars and present them effortlessly to potential clients,” Muller-Otvos said.
