In a move to prevent rival Omega from surpassing its leader position Rolex signs $350 million deal become Formula 1’s worldwide partner and official timepiece for 10 years. In April, Digital Luxury Group (DLG) released a report confirming that the gap between luxury watch makers Rolex and Omega had been getting smaller every year. The difference went from 8.4 percent in 2009 to a mere 2 percent in 2012.
In Brazil, one of the world’s most important emerging economies and the biggest market for F1 fans globally, the four most-searched-for timepieces are motorsport watches, with the Rolex Daytona coming in third and Omega’s Sea Master securing the fifth position according to the World Watch Report. Brazil’s importance is magnified by the fact that it is hosting 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics. Omega has been a global Olympic games partner and in 2016, it will retain that position by being the official timekeeper at the Rio games.

NYU’s Stern School of Business MBA launches Stern Consulting Corps’ partnership with the Council of Fashion Designers of America, which pairs students with fashion designers for 10 weeks to provide advice on a variety of subjects, including business plans, e-commerce strategies, and cash flow projections.
The program, which just completed its fourth semester, matches Stern MBAs with designers—either a participant in CFDA’s Fashion Incubator or a more established CFDA member—and assigns each team an industry leader to provide guidance and feedback. This spring, the program matched 10 MBAs with New York City designers.

CFDA’s executive director, Lisa Smilor, was responsible for launching the partnership with Stern and says the program’s success has prompted the CFDA to seek partnerships with other MBA programs. “The benefit for our designers really comes from the information they are able to get from the Stern students,” Smilor says. “These students have the skills, the time, and the resources to be able to provide something tangible that the designers and entrepreneurs can act on.”
CFDA and Harvard Business School now work together to place MBA students in summer internships with such members as Kate Spade and Carolina Herrera, and the organization will partner with Columbia Business School beginning this Fall.

Singer Chris Brown arrives at the 55th annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, California …
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – R&B singer Chris Brown, on probation for beating his former girlfriend, was charged on Tuesday with a hit-and-run and driving without a valid license in connection with a May 21 traffic accident in Los Angeles.
Brown, 24, allegedly rear-ended another car and faces up to six months in jail on each misdemeanor charge, L.A. City Attorney spokesman Frank Mateljan said. He will be arraigned in Los Angeles Superior Court on July 15, Mateljan said.
Brown called the charges “ridiculous” on Twitter and posted a photo of the car he said was involved in the accident, saying it was “just a dirty car.”
“It’s not a hit and run if u get out the car, exchange information (who has NO DAMAGE to either cars). This is really ridiculous,” he wrote on Twitter.
“I have a valid drivers (sic) license and I gave the woman the right info. She saw cameras and wanted to make a scene,” Brown said. “I will not stand for this bullying and yellow journalism!”
The “Kiss Kiss” singer was sentenced to five years probation, 180 days of community service and domestic violence counseling after pleading guilty to beating singer Rihanna on the eve of the 2009 Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.
Brown, also accused by prosecutors of having cut corners on his court-ordered community service, could be sent to prison if a judge decides that he violated the terms of his probation, which is being handled by a Los Angeles County court.
“We will forward the violation on to the county district attorney and they will handle it from there,” Mateljan said.
Los Angeles County District Attorney spokeswoman Jane Robison said the office was aware of the charges against Brown but had yet to receive them from the city. “When we are informed by the city attorney, we will consider it,” Robison said.
Brown has been involved in a number of highly publicized altercations, including a night club brawl with rapper Drake last year and a fight with R&B singer Frank Ocean outside a West Hollywood, California, recording studio in January. Kiran Rao to open her own production house?

By Rajesh Kumar Singh, Glamsham Editorial
That was the question on every journalist’s mind. Is she trying to float her independent banner to come out of her husband’s shadows? What is she up to? In a press conference at a Mumbai suburban hotel specially called to announce a unique hitherto untried Internet campaign to find out the real audience of Anand Gandhi’s film SHIP OF THESIUS, she put all the speculation to rest.
Kiran Rao is not floating a new banner. She is just presenting SHIP OF THESIUS and working towards ensuring a decent promotion and release strategy for a pure art house film of this kind while letting the independent producer have complete control over how his/her work, in this case Anand Gandhi, and Recyclewala Films.
She was aware of the fact that involvement of AKPL would have dwarfed the producers of the film and she simply did not want that to happen. She is a great believer in a film being discovered by its audience and was certain that getting AKPL on board would prove counterproductive from this perspective. Rao probably thinks that way because of her DHOBI GHAT experience. She set about to making a low budget film in guerilla style. Involvement of AKPL and Aamir Khan changed the entire dynamics of her filmmaking and marketing by generating expectations DHOBI GHAT was not meant to fulfill. Though the film recovered its investment, it did not help her cause of exploring alternative ways of producing and distributing independent art house films that may not have an effective mainstream release owing to high costs of marketing and distribution.
She is doing that now with SHIP OF THESEUS. She has UTV on board and they are trying to keep the cost of promotion and distribution as low as possible with an extremely focused Internet based niche-marketing campaign. It’s the film that will choose its target audience. That is how it looks like. Right from its intriguing poster to its philosophical title and subtle yet sublime visually stunning trailers, the message is loud and clear. It is not run-of-mill mainstream cinema. It requires a different kind of engagement and aesthetic and intellectual sensibility from its audience. It is the firm conviction of Kiran Rao and Anand Gandhi that such an audience exists and the only challenge before them is to create that alternative low-cost promotion and distribution model to make the twain, the film and its desired audience, meet.
Written and directed by Anand Gandhi, SHIP OF THESEUS releases on 19 July 2013 in India after having performed very well in the global film festival circuits, winning a plethora of honors and prestigious accolades. It is produced by Sohum Shah and distributed in India by UTV Motion Pictures. Its international sales and distribution is handled by Fortissimo Films.

'Shaktimaan' takes Shahrukh Khan and Ekta Kapoor to task

By Rajesh Kumar Singh, Glamsham Editorial
Shaktimaan will be back on POGO TV in a 70-minute telefilm titled HAMAARA HERO SHAKTIMAAN that will have its TV premiere on 30th June, 2013, at 12 noon. The telefilm will introduce a new character – Junior Shaktimaan played by Uday Sachdeva. It is directed by Saumitra Ranade, known for his debut 2003 live-action animation film JAJANTARAM MAMANTARAM. This was announced in a press conference by ‘Shaktimaan’ himself. It was also an occasion for Mukesh Khanna to express his ‘heartfelt sentiments’ and ‘anguish’ over certain developments.
‘Shaktimaan’ Mukesh Khanna is quite unhappy with Bollywood super-stars and heroes who think they need not act like messiahs in personal life. He is particularly unhappy with Shah Rukh Khan who talked about every Indian super hero in an interview about his film RA.ONE except the first modern super hero of India – Shaktimaan. Mukesh Khanna came down heavily on Shah Rukh Khan for his habit of smoking and yet nursing the ambition of playing a super hero in his film. People won’t accept anyone like that as a super hero even if it’s just a character. People look up to their heroes and emulate them and thus they must set a good example in personal life as well according to Khanna who is a teetotaler, non-smoker, and a bachelor just like his character.
Mukesh Khanna’s next target of attack was Ekta Kapoor who dared to make a ‘MAHABHARAT’ in which the characters of the epic looked more Greek than Indian with a Draupadi that had tattoos on her back. It was a distorted interpretation of the epic and that’s why TV audiences rejected it according to Khanna who had acted as Pitmah Bhishm in B.R. Chopra’s MAHABAHART.
