When I think back to the 1980s or even the 1990s, I don’t recall many yellowed fields in August.  Some farmers grew canola, but the prairies seemed dominated by the cereal crops:  wheat, oats, and barley.  However, manufacturing biodiesel requires canola, creating a market demand that farmers have readily supplied.  Genetically modified canola is grown by many producers in this area, despite protests and bans from other parts of the world.

The day had begun with showers and kept its thunder heads, so the sky was particularly dramatic this Saturday in early August.
